There is a longstanding practice that Hendrick Automotive Group facilities utilize environmentally sustainable materials for construction processes and daily operations. This is especially true when it comes to our new BMW of McKinney facility in Texas, slated to open later this spring.

“We play our part when it comes to sustainable construction and facilities,” said Greg Clark, Hendrick Automotive Group director of real estate and construction. “Wherever possible, we try to go above and beyond in our sustainable and environmental efficiency targets. It’s smart for our facilities and it’s the right thing to do for the environment and the community.”

WINDOWS: Tall windows will adorn the brand-new BMW of McKinney facility with an infusion of natural lighting and overall energy efficiency. Treated to diffuse heat and enhanced to cool the inside atmosphere, the facility is designed to help mitigate the need for additional HVAC support. The glass is also Low E treated, allowing for better maintenance of lighting throughout a facility.

LIGHTING: Every Hendrick Automotive Group dealership utilizes LEDs throughout, a much brighter and more efficient lighting. Through daylight harvesting, the lights phase in and out based on the natural light available. Sensors are throughout each facility; with office fixtures governed by occupancy sensors. That is also good news for HVAC systems, as LEDs give off very little radiated heat.

LED lights last quite a bit longer than traditional lighting. With eight hours of operation per day, LED fixtures last upwards of an estimated 20 years without replacement. These lights are also 80-90 percent more efficient than previous ones, providing up to 20 percent less energy to produce the same (or more in many cases) light.

These lights are also more durable, offering a longer lifespan even during frequent switching.

ROOFING: The dealership will also have a heat-reflective roof, known as TPO or thermoplastic polyolefin, a white membrane substance that regulates heat through reflection instead of absorption. Made of mostly recyclable material, TPO roofs have a much lower environmental impact than other contemporary items used.

To ensure the most efficient results, Hendrick Automotive Group utilizes the most sustainable materials available at the time of construction. TPO is one of those materials resistant to ultraviolet, ozone and chemicals.

HIGH-SPEED DOORS: In both the service lane and service center facilities is a Hendrick Automotive Group signature — high-speed doors. The doors control the environment, and limits the escape of the heating and cooling.

CONCRETE PARKING: While more expensive, using concrete as a base for the parking lot is much cooler and more efficient over the long run. No asphalt or petroleum was utilized during construction.

RECYCLED: The store’s furniture and materials on the building are made out of recycled products whenever possible

Speaking of recycling, Hendrick Automotive Group’s BMW franchises focus on environmental sustainability in their daily activities as well.

For example, BMW of South Austin recycled 490,829 pounds of waste in 2022, saving 684 metric tons of carbon dioxide and 1.7 million miles driven by the gasoline-powered passenger vehicle. The dealership also recycled 14,925 gallons and 10,250 pounds of used engine oil. Other items recycled include scrap metal, anti-freeze, batteries and cardboard.

Hendrick Automotive Group is committed to BMW and its overall sustainability goal.

BMW of McKinney is a terrific example of this partnership.
