BMW has long been a leader in the all-electric segment, with the 2014 BMW i3 representing one of the industry’s first EVs, and the brand doesn’t look to be slowing down its trailblazing approach anytime soon. Since 2022, BMW has introduced all-electric variants of some of its most popular models, along with one wholly original creation. It all started with the BMW i4 and iX, which saw BMW bring its luxury approach to a new generation of sedans and SUVs. The lineup has since grown to encompass two more models in the i5 and i7, which see BMW work its luxury sedan magic to create a set of ultra-efficient EVs that makes no compromises in terms of performance, luxury, and cutting-edge tech. Each of BMW’s EVs not only offers hundreds of miles of electric driving range; it also leverages its all-electric design to deliver a thrilling yet refined experience that is sure to leave an impression. i4 Gran Coupe

A compact executive car offers the ideal blend of performance and luxury, and the i4 elevates the well-established formula with an all-electric powertrain that puts a premium on fun. A critical favorite since its 2022 debut, the i4 has managed to snag a place on Car and Driver’s coveted Editor’s Choice list every year since its launch. The leading automotive publication praised the i4’s convincing EV powertrain along with the ample display that combines a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The display curves across the left side of the dash, giving drivers easy access to vital metrics and infotainment options while lending the interior a modern, high-end look. The luxury compact is also packed with an advanced voice command system along with plenty of connectivity options like a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Still, the i4’s most impressive tech would have to be the all-electric powertrain.

BMW offers the i4 in three distinct versions, with each model boasting its own unique setup. The base eDrive40 employs a rear-wheel drive design and single-motor setup that allows the car to produce 335 hp. The eDrive40 provides a responsive, energetic ride, but those looking to enjoy even more Bavarian brawn should look into the xDrive40. An extra motor and the addition of all-wheel drive go a long way, allowing the xDrive40 to supply 396 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque to play with. The i4’s high-performance M50 model earns BMW’s vaunted M badge with an all-wheel drive dual-motor setup packing 536 hp, enabling the model to sprint to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. Adaptive dampers and a variable-ratio steering system lend the M50 a comfortable, responsive ride that’s sure to win over the few remaining EV skeptics.

i5 Sedan

BMW’s midsize marvel has been a favorite among drivers since it first hit the market in 1972. The latest generation, dubbed the G60, has seen the model thoroughly modernized with a host of top-tier features and plenty of opulent interior touches, but the new, all-electric i5 might represent the most exciting addition to the lineup. Like the smaller i4, the midsize i5 offers a range of remarkable powertrains that give buyers the ability to customize their driving experience. Looking for a solid daily driver that provides plenty of engagement while still boasting a range of nearly 300 miles? The eDrive40 offers a well-rounded package that still manages to thrill with 335 hp on tap. The i5’s dual-motor xDrive40 trim—which is new for 2025—provides over 15 percent more power, but the performance-minded M60 is the undeniable ruler of the roost with 593 hp and the same blistering 3.3-second zero-to-60-mph time as the i4 M50. That sort of performance will set you back in terms of range, with the M60 getting an estimated 256 miles, but the 84.3 kWh battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent in just 30 minutes when connected to a DC fast charging station. Best of all? Those fill-ups will be coming courtesy of BMW, which offers 1,000 kWh of free charging through the Electrify America network.

Performance is just half of the package when it comes to any luxury model. BMW has graced the i5 with an interior worthy of its heart-pumping powertrain, deploying premium materials across the cabin to create a four-wheel oasis that quiets the mind and soothes the senses. A variety of upholstery options, including Smoke White perforated and quilted Veganza synthetic leather, gives the interior a decidedly up-market look, while cabin accents from carbon fiber to open pore wood provide a pop of detail that’s hard to miss. This level of customization helps to strengthen the i5’s luxury resume, giving every driver the opportunity to create a bespoke interior that sets the sedan apart from every other vehicle you see in Dallas. The cabin might radiate old-world charm, but the i5’s ambient lighting strips provide a contemporary touch that the younger generation is sure to appreciate. Other modern amenities include a Harman Kardon stereo system, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 14.9-inch touchscreen complete with BMW’s Operating System 8.5, which is constantly improving thanks to over-the-air updates.

i7 Sedan

Full-size and fully electric, the BMW i7 defies its larger designation to offer a lively, refined driving experience with all the luxury touches one would expect from a BMW. With plenty of passenger volume and a spacious trunk, the i7 offers an abundance of room for riders and cargo alike. The sedan’s generous dimensions provide plenty of room to stretch out, relax, and enjoy the ride, no matter whether you opt for the front or back seat. While adjustable seats are traditionally limited to front-row passengers, BMW defies convention with a Rear Executive Lounge Seating Package that sees the back row graced with power-adjustable reclining seats paired with ergonomic headrests and all the connectivity and charging tech you’ll need to get some work done as you zip between meetings.

Speaking of gadgets, it’s the car’s backseat that really takes center stage when it comes to screen time. The i7’s front row isn’t going to disappoint, with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster employing the same curved design found in the i4 and i5, but the backseat includes a full-on theatre experience with one of the largest entertainment systems on the market. BMW’s 31-inch Theatre Screen is an ultrawide display offering 4K resolution and the ability to connect to your favorite streaming service thanks to the i7’s 5G cellular connection.

The Theatre Screen is cleverly stowed in the ceiling when the backseat is unoccupied, but if you want to ensure a little serenity on longer road trips, the high-resolution display can easily fold down to provide a four-wheeled theater experience you won’t soon forget. BMW has even included a clever Theatre Mode feature that’ll automatically dim the ambient lights, activate the integrated window blinds to minimize glare from the Texas sun, and get your screening off to an auspicious start with a sound cue crafted by famed composer Hans Zimmer. The 39-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and door-mounted touchpad playback controls will have you looking for every excuse to stream the latest blockbuster, popcorn not included.

iX SUV

The BMW iX is a sign of the times, combining an all-electric platform with a crossover design that’s sure to appeal to today’s trendsetting drivers. The midsize SUV provides plenty of interior space thanks to the EV approach, which has allowed BMW to nix many of the bulky components that would otherwise be required to distribute the crossover’s considerable power. All-wheel drive and dual electric motors come standard on both the xDrive50 and M60 trims, though the M-badged version is the clear frontrunner in terms of performance with 610 hp and upgraded handling. BMW didn’t strictly need to make a midsize crossover that can speed from zero to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, but drivers will be glad it did. While that type of power usually comes at the cost of fuel economy—or, in this case, range—BMW has engineered around the issue by giving the iX a sizable 111.5 kWh battery pack that offers an estimated 309 miles of all-electric driving.

In addition to its long list of performance credentials, BMW has also packed the iX with a full suite of advanced safety and convenience tech that helps to remove a lot of the stress from the everyday driving experience. Frontal Collision Warning and Park Distance Control can keep the paint job looking showroom-fresh by minimizing bumps and scratches, while Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and automatic high beams simplify the driving experience to provide a safer, more relaxing drive for all involved. The iX is also available with BMW’s Highway Assistant hands-free driving mode, which can take the wheel and handle most driving duties on divided highways across the country. Included as part of BMW’s Driving Assistance Professional Package, which easily placed towards the top of Consumer Report’s rankings of active driving assistance systems, Highway Assistant uses a front camera and radar to change lanes, brake, and accelerate as it navigates rush hour traffic or whisks you off to your tee time at your favorite Dallas golf course.
